Dear John, As you know we were quite pleased with the results of your initial assessment process. At the outset, I was concerned that there might be some issues about “opening up” to someone outside the organization. You and Peter were able to utilize your superior interviewing skills to obtain what we believe were candid insights to the thinking of those in the several different functional areas within our project scope.
Based on the initial results, we decided to follow through with the recommendation for the developing a Marketing Action Plan, by conducting further interviews, running an on-site workshop and then providing continuing coaching to see that the plan was completed effectively.
There was a bit of tension as the date for the Workshop approached. I thought you did an excellent job of dispelling those feelings quickly at the beginning of the session. Your consultative approach resulted in what I think was a rather full engagement by all the participants. The discussions were well received and most found new insights from them.
While we still have a lot of work to do, there are clearly articulated action steps with dates and owners. I think we are getting close to the next milestones; so, I remain optimistic that the enthusiasm for the effort well remain high despite the many distractions we’re facing.
I’m expecting that your process may include revisiting and refining some of the initial points we identified in the Workshop. I think part of your approach is to “bring people along” step by step, leading them toward their own discoveries, which ultimately will be more strongly held than any “answer” which could be “presented”. Something, I think we can learn from and apply in our efforts to influence our customers and prospects.
Clearly, there are many issues identified within your initial assessment that may require changes. Nevertheless I truly believe that we’ve started down the right path.

John Boyens was requested to present three classes at our FASTSIGNS 2007 annual convention. FASTSIGNS International, Inc. is a large franchise organization with over 500 centers worldwide. We hold an annual convention for our franchisees and their staffs.
Initially, we were pleased to see his repertoire of class topics. Many of the subjects pertained to the areas our franchisees were seeking. John taught two subjects: “Maximizing Your Outside Sales Rep’s Performance” and “Employee Retention – Your Key to Reaching New Heights.” We received raving comments on his class evaluations. A couple of the comments were, “This was the best class at convention this year,” and “The tools and information prove to be very useful and relative.”
John was able to tailor his presentation to the sign industry showing that he had done his research prior to coming. Hence, the class was able to relate to the information making it more valuable.
